KY VET said that he won $5000 on Street Sense in Derby 2007. You should find out from him how much he bet and what happened in years 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011 ...also how much of his bonanza he has kept betting futures over the years. Finally, which horses is he betting this year ?(LOL)

His favourite foe whom he likes to refer to as COLD CUTS, calls him the KY KLOWN and it appears not without good reason. The 'VET' does add to the comic relief on here and shouldn't be taken too seriously. He seems like a good sport and able to defend himself well.

I was standing at last year's Belmont near the Winner's Circle prior to the post parade in the rain, when my husband turned to me and asked (figuring I, his wife, have the who's who directory of horseracing in my head) who's that? I looked and said, "Oh, that's Shack's trainer Dale Romans." He was taking the time to sign autographs for fans on his way I assume to the paddock. I like him as a trainer, he did a wonderful job with Shack, and I wish him the best with the ones he's got this year. Nice article on Dale Romans, Jason. Good stuff.

JAYJAY Not sure why they picked the battaglia and not the palm beach and the crazy thing about the battaglia is MR Prankster will probally air and he isn't even nominated. Would have been nice to pick Dullahan or Howe Great for palm beach and had one or both headed to the Blugrass or the Spiral Stakes. As far as the race this weekend Hanson should roll, but i am sure a couple horses will be flying late and give us all something to talk about next week. Hope everyone has a wonderful and prosperous weekend be safe........

Now you can see why I am a handicapping legend and known by many as one of the all time greats. Red Ace paid 4.40 for Place and the win with Ninja Blade was worth just 4.00. If you took my advice you more than doubled your money and got paid MORE than the win ticket. Please send me no money. With me it's all about the children. Take the money I won for you and buy yourself something nice and donate the rest to the kids.

Pedigree Ann. I think the 1982 Big Cap was the first live horse race I ever saw. John Henry was defending his 1981 Big Cap win at age 7. He ran 1:59.

The Big Cap still holds the all time attendace record for Santa Anita at 85,527 with Whittingham taking it 8 times.

I have seen so many great ones over the years. Alysheba, Ferdinand, Bayakoa versus Criminal Type and Rhulman, who I think still holds the records at a dirt mile.

HRTV broadcast a 'live' show that aired in 1982 of the Santa Anita H. Aside from the amusing parts - Wayne Lukas was part of the broadcast team and had more dark hair than white - I have to conclude:

Yeah, racing was a lot better back then; it isn't just nostalgia for the days of one's youth. John Henry shouldered 130 lbs; Providential II, winner of the previous year's Washington DC International and Hollywood Turf Cup, carried 127; both of these were coming into the race without a prep. At 126 was Perrault, a recent import who had won the 10f Arcadia H on turf. At 124 was Super Moment, winner of the CH Strub (the 10f version) the year before and who had prepped with a win in the grassy 10f San Marcos H. And at 123 was It's the One, winner of the San Fernando (9f) and CH Strub (10f) against his own age group. Weights ranged down to 115 for Sir Dancer, who had won the G1 Norfolk S at 2. Also in the field were Score Twenty Four (won the San Antonio as a prep, High Counsel (another Norfolk winner), Dorcaro (second in the 10f G1 Swaps at 3 and runner up to It's the One in the Strub), and King Go Go (second in the Big Cap the year before).

Now compare to this year's field.

And I still don't see the bumping that caused Perrault's DQ. (THey couldn't show the head-on; this was 1982.) Perrault went on to win the Budweiser Million, the Hollywood Gold Cup and the San Luis Rey S that year, but he bowed a tendon in the Marlboro Cup (or was it the Woodward?). You see, with no Pacific Classic or Goodwood H, the best West Coast horses had nowhere to run and had to go East, meaning the bests all met in a series in the fall.

I still remember my anger at the TV hosts who were musing over Perrault's poor performance in that last race, yelling "Didn't you see him being pulled up in upper stretch, you morons?" at the TV.

Dr D Sydneys Candy was an early bloomer as a 3yo as a colt that wasnt a distance runner, but any good horse allowed an early uncontested lead will win.He might have lasted another quarter mile in the derby if rated better.Now he is a horse and is a miler.Examples that come to mind Line of David a sprinter/miler that won the 2010 Arkansas Derby,The Factor that won the 2011 Rebel,but only at a mile and a sixteenth .The last two frontrunners to win the Derby could run a distance, Big Brown and War Emblem.Taking the lead in the Derby in the last decade has for the most part been a losing proposition.

Are you going to post who you're betting the KDFW ? and how much you're putting on them ?? Just curious, are you related to Draynay ?

trackjack / ROBBIEJOE25 : What do you guys think of RTTR using Battaglia as one of the prep races ? It's ungraded with a purse of less than 100K, I can't imagine any horse other than the local ones going to that race which makes it really just a useless race for the purposes of earning points.

I'm surprised to see Hansen at 6-5 morning line being in the 12th hole. As much as I want him to win, i'm salivating at the potential odds of the rest of the field. I'm probably going to use My Adonis and Rajiv Maragh's horse to try and beat Hansen. I also like TP's horse Raconteur. 1-5-8 tri box, and will play those with Hansen on top just in case Hansen is a freak. I'm gonna research Side Road and Stealcase to see if I can use them to complete my superfecta.

OK now regarding this blog, I'm not sold on News Pending personally yet. I'll say he is one to watch, but I gotta see his next race, see if he can hold his own. I like Dullahan a lot thought. He was nowhere near Hansen, Creative Cause and Union Rags, but he was picking up a lot of steam toward the end of that race when those three were running out of steam. Not saying that an extra 1 1/2 furlongs would have won it but he looked good in the late staged. Him and Creative Cause are my dark horses of sorts. Both look like they'll like the longer distance. The grey Hansen is still my favorite however, looking forward to seeing his race on Saturday.

And Draynay's delusions are still quite entertaining, almost borderline annoying once you've seen too many of them.

Draynay, downtrodden, moping along after another bad day at the track. "I don't get it. He was 1-5, he should have won. I don't play longshots like 2-1. It should have been a lock." Draynay decides to take the shortcut home along the railroad tracks and gets home in short order and thinks, "You know, I should forget about all of this racetrack stuff. Watch a video or something. Relax." He pops in the Wizard of Oz DVD and half watches and half thinks about his day at the track. After the movie is over he jumps up and runs outside, skipping down the sidewalk in his neighborhood and singing at the top of his lungs- " I could pick a winner, even I could pick a winner if I only had a brain. I'm off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz." A neighbor yells- "Keep it down out there." Draynay yells back, "Are you crazy? This time I've got it !!!!"

Friday Race 3 is about as tough as it gets. But let me give my thoughts. Harbor Breeze is facing winners for the first time and will need the lead again from the rail. But Paco on the favorite Self Control will have blinkers on and should push Harbour Breeze to go a little faster than he wants to. Castellano picks up Ninja Blade but he failed badly in his last and may need a race to get his best. Red Ace comes from the West and puts in a fine bullet work under a new trainer Wayne C. By the way Wayne has been on fire winning at 30% and picks up JR for the race. JR should sit nicely behind the speed and pick them off deep into stretch. Does he win ? Maybe not, but he will be 3rd or 4th choice and place bet here should pay off nicely. 100 on the 2 horse to PLACE. You're welcome. Now you see why I am the best.

It Ain't Easy Being Good! Do you know how hard it is to pick the last place horse or even better the last place exacta year after year in the Breeder's Cup Classic? One's chances are significantly increased if you bet Pletcher but that is a skill that Draynay has that no other player on here seems to have acquired.

As far a chalk...We all gamble so we know when to hammmer The Factor at 6-5. That's part of the game.

I let my $2 dollar bet roll throughout Zenyatta's career so I now own a Ferarri with a "Big-Z" license plate. Sorry, if one's feelings for the mare clouded their handicapping ability.

Coldfacts makes about the most sense right now. Take another look at Creative Cause and Union Rag's drunken run in the Breeder's Cup. Union Rags comes in about 100 yards out and which pushes Creative Cause up in behind Hansen. Take another look how he jogs out after a 7 furlong sprint on a track that no one can close on after changing leads 3 times. But finally, take a look at his female side...some nice turf stuff running 1 3/4 races in the 70s.

He may not be fast enough, but he certainly will be far enough. He will run the Derby, skip the Preakness, and run the Belmont.

Sydneys Candy won easily in the SA Derby then went way too fast in The Derby and was done; rookie mistake by the jockey in The Derby and not enough horse anyway. The San Felipe is the race this year. I'm a big Midnight Transfer fan.
