All I can say is that if Mr. Fantasy wins this one with the same ease as his other two races, he should be the front runner in the next pool...I would like to add that he would begin to look like Big Brown this time last year.

The Gotham is shaping up to be a very key prep race with at least 3 "potentials", Mr.Fantasy, Haynesfield and Danger to Society pointing towards it. I assume we will see a few more shippers in from Florida. The winner will probably be in most top 5 rankings. Any thoughts?

pioneerof the nile giving 7 lbs to i want revenge is indication of enough improvement to lead me to believe he will be a tough animal come the 1st sat in may-don't know if he's my derby horse or not-too soon to tell-col john didn't mind dirt track at saratoga so get bogged down about west coast runners being at a disadvantage, it they'er good enough, they'll win

Two newcomers to the scene that impressed me this weekend were Papa Clem and Nowhere to Hide. Papa Clem has plenty of upside and is still learning. Like his Smart Strike pedigree and he even out worked POTN on Jan 18th. Nowhere to Hide should have learned a lot from his Risen Star try and look for big improvement next time out. These are just the type that hit the board at huge prices on Derby Day. Will watch their progress.

Pioneer of the Nile is definately the colt I am following at this point for the Kentucky Derby. He impressed me in the CashCall Futurity and watching his performance in the Robert B. Lewis I think he showed that he can handled tough situations. He is a long striding colt which I like also. My second choice at this point goes to Friesan Fire. But things are still early out there and a mystery horse could suddenly pop up. I'm also going to keep an eye on I Want Revenge. As for Stardom Bound I really want and hope to see her in the Santa Anita Derby.

Wow! My favourites were by on large on song tonight with Stardom Bound, Friesan Fire and War Echo all winning. On investigating Pioneer of the Nile's pedigree have discoveed that not only is he an Empire Maker nd i loved him even if he did beat Funny! But he traces back to several great favourites of mine, namely, El Gran Senor, General(FR) and Brigadier Gerard!!!!! So one to follow now and he looks lovely. Have watched the videos of "Stardom," "Friesan," and "Pioneer," and all were impressive weren't they?

THE WEST HOLDS 2 ACES! Can another grey filly take the Santa Anita Derby from the boys? After Stardom Bound's Las Virgenes win her connections say she can. Pioneer of the Nile "shoots right to the top of the West Coast" contenders with his B. Lewis win. All systems go as the Santa Anita Derby takes shape.

Look for Nowhere to Hide to try to steal the Risen Star today. He had trouble graduating, but works have been serious. Indygo Mountain and Giant Oak appear to be the ones to fear. Shafted is getting good and could upset. I Want Revenge gets a 7 lb. weight shift over Pioneer of the Nile and may be the one to beat. Most likely to upset Stardom Bound is Navigator and Saucey Evening. Like Peace Town to run big against Haynesfield in the Whirlaway.

Feb. 7...Maiden Watch...Candy For Paseana makes his debut at Santa Anita in Maiden Special Weight. A Candy Ride colt out of the only Paseana offsping ever conceived (Paseana's Girl). Apparently she (Paseana) had fertility problems and was shiped back to her native Argentena. Candy Ride/Paseana offsping looks like a good combo destined for grade 1.

Saw the comment by someone who is lacking in knowledge when it comes to California racing, I think that the false idea that racing has to be back east was solved once and for all when War Admiral lost to the great, late Seabiscuit. Samual Riddle made the mistake of saying the West Coast horses could not compete with the East Coast horses, he was proven wrong! Maybe if somebody actually went to the track and placed a real bet instead of watching TV and using his credit card to bet then he could talk. My dad took me to the track and I take my son to the track and we love it. We play with real money, on real tracks with real horses. Synthetic or not our horses win, we run them fast and to win!

Risen Star 2009 full of talent! Looks to be a fast pace... Au Moon needs to get position and that will get the horse up to a pretty fast pace, and may be the pace factor of this race. I figure Giantt Oak to tuck in with Friesan Fire somewhere close behind the pace and remain there till the top of the stretch. Those two should pass the tired pace runners and play nose to nose to the line.... watch out for Dumar charging up.. may catch and pass them both..

Giant Oak is definately the horse to bear here!

I believe that the colt that is going to serve notice -not neccessarily win- is "Shafted" these prelims are fun to watch and follow but come that first Saturday in May failing anything out of the norm happening I believe he will be there. The last time I seen a turn of foot on a colt like this his name was "Mineshaft".

I have liked POTN since I saw him race at Keeneland last Oct. As a 3yo, he has not physically matured yet and when he does, he will be a monster just like his daddy! He will be peaking for the KY Derby and surprise alot of people and show them how good he really is! The last time I picked a horse in Oct. for the derby was in 2005 with Afleet Alex and we all know what he did. No, he didn't win the Derby, but he should have. He did, however, won the last 2 TC races. Anyhow, watch out for POTN in April. I also like Patena and Hello Broadway. Good Luck to everyone!!

I sure liked the way I Want Revenge split horses along the rail in deep stretch in the Cash Call. Very difficult move for such a young horse. He looked like the real deal. Mott/Baffert obviously has Pioneer of the Nile fit...he did get the better of the trip last time out. These two are really hard to separate.

Jason I just watched Mr. Fantasy and his first two races... is it me or do they look a lot like Big Brown races last year? Look for Zito to send out a flyer to test his front running style in the Gotham.

Johnny-Dallas...You got a friend here. Have been touting this horse. Great connections and even better breeding. Let's see how Pioneer of the Nile and I Want Revenge do this weekend. You Tube the CashCall and tell me this horse was not screaming another 1/8th mile (he was last at the 1/2 mile pole and 2 lengths off of Pioneer/I want Revenge at the finish line). He was just getting started. It looks like Pioneer was drifting out a little (he should win easy this weekend if Baffert has worked this out).

Steve: I saw Mr. Fantasy's races on replay today, he is mighty impressive. Im going to call Terry on Monday and see what else I can find out. He might be the most impressive horse Ive seen so far. I agree he needs to face open company, but I havent seen anything in NY that can stop him.

Yeah, I could have a lot of juggling to do after this weekend. Giant Oak certainly doesnt have to win; just looking for a good race. He's such a big, long-striding horse.

I know Kiaran is pretty high onMr. Fantasy, and Buzz Chace called me all excited about him. He was the one who bought him. I love the way he runs. He overcame the outside post in his last and cruised to the lead, then ran his opponents into the ground while doing it effortlessly. I cant judge him until he faces open company.

I shall just hedge my bets and cheer for Friesan Fire, Indygo Mountain, Au Moon and Vindication's son plus Giant Oak, because i love Giant's Causeway, in the Risen Star. Then Shafted, I Want Revenge and Bittel Road in the Robert B Lewis and I am not as yet sure of the pedigrees in the Whirlaway so have no idea about that!

Will be cheering on Stardom Bound in the Las Virgenes but as i cannot actually watch any of the races that is figuratively speaking only! But will be eagerly awaiting the results to come through to see how they have all got on and will enjoy reading the reports!

Hey Steve: Saw your latest column where you wrote about Indygo and Bittel Road but didnt know you liked them this weekend. In fact, in this week's Derby Dozen you have Giant Oak No. 3, I Want Revenge No. 6, Pioneerof the Nile No. 8 and Friesan Fire No. 9. Seems like you have all your bases covered! :)

On another note, a lot of readers have been talking about Mr. Fantasy lately. Anything new you can tell us? I guess he's being pointed to the Gotham?
