I cannot tell you how sorry Mine That Bird is that your son could not be part of his morning workout on this day. Greg J., thank you so much for taking the time to put all the links to MTB's races together. That was incredibly nice of you. Morgan sat down yesterday & watched all of them.

Thank you, also, to everyone for all the support & kind words. I try to plan right & think ahead when organizing something for Morgan. I thought I had when I called the racing office the day before. With Asperger's Syndrome (mild autism), these kids try so hard. But, they are often met with disappointment. In Morgan's case, he gets frustrated when others (usually other kids) think he can't do something. True, it takes him longer to master things, but he works hard at it & eventually gets it. He is, for example, still learning how to ride a bike. At this point, he is old enough to be embarrassed should another kid see him on his bike. But, one thing he can do is ride a horse. Since many of his peers cannot do so, he has a very strong connection to horses.I asked him what drew him to MTB so much. What he said brought to mind what I have so often thought thruout Morgan's childhood. I sometimes think he was "here" before when he says things. I've often gotten calls from his teachers to tell me what he said pertaining to certain conversations at school. This year's teacher says he amazes her with his thinking & tells me he is like a wise old man. Anyway, he said that MTB is a lot like him, that people think he can't do things & nobody gave him a chance. He has told me several times, "He showed them, Mom, didn't he"? Morgan identifies with MTB.

Hopefully, we will be able to go back down to Belmont on Sunday morning. I hesitate to call there today, though, as it is a very busy day.

I see 12 furlongs (220 yards x 12==2640 yards==3 feet=7920 ft for these spectacular animals to run a race today to win over 9 others by'say 1 foot. Breeding is crucial as is training and position etc. That last 220 feet is the crucial test of stamina today.

The late closers/laggards are better prepared to gut it out-- guys like::

1)DUNKIRK and [[LOBIFD]]

2)CHOCOLATE CANDY

3)FLYING PRIVATE

I'll box these in a $18 EX,,then $10 TRI & With the #3 MR HOT STUFF IN AN $ 8 SUPER. The OFF THE WALL BOX for EACH EXOTIC IS $3 ON THE 3-6-8.

The EX $10 HIT IN THE PREAKNESS WAS JUST TOO EASY FOR ALL OF US.

Colette, That is so awful about your frustrating morning. Maybe the morning after the Belmont they will be less strict and allow you in to see Mine That Bird. Chip Wooley was out after the Derby handing out roses from Bird's blanket, I bet he would love for your son to be able to pet Bird. They will surely be there for a few days after the race.

Colette, that's really too bad.

Maybe you should go through the Community Relations dept of the NYRA or the Public Relations dept at the track. Maybe something to do with stakes weekend? Hmmm.

I think Lukas was speaking this a.m. at a memorial but he has a horse in today I think. Bet if you'd have taken Morgan, had somebody let him know he'd have hooked you up some way, some how. With pictures etc.

Know he's pretty nice about that.

Guess he and a few others are worried about the track, it's apparently raining really, really hard. Not sure they're going to be able to dry it out since they're running on it now and that makes it so much harder to get the water out.

I am so, so disappointed! My 13 year old son, Morgan, and I got up at 4 am this morning & went down to Belmont (1 hour 15 mins. away) to watch the early morning work outs on the main track. I had called Belmont yesterday & was told to go to Gate 5. So, I took a personal day from work last night, took Morgan out of school for the day & was in the car heading to Belmont @ 4:45am. Morgan is mildly autistic & I had such a hard time getting him to go to sleep last night. He was up before the clock went off this morning & he had me up before the clock went off at 4am. He wanted to see Mine That Bird, so badly, in person. Every day since the Derby, he checks the computer for information on MTB. He also wanted to see his horse's brother, Flying Private. The story about how Morgan was given Super Hero (Flying Private's brother) last May was written about in the DRF and Bloodhorse when Super Hero retired. Super Hero was shipped all the way from the West Coast to NY to my son, Morgan. Anyway, we arrived at Belmont this morning & we were not allowed in to watch the morning work outs. I was told that kids were not allowed in in the mornings. Apparently, the racing office didn't know that when I called them yesterday. I purposely went today & not tomorrow, Belmont Day because with the crowds it is so hard to see the races. Morgan is 5 ft. tall. He'd end up watching the horses on a TV screen, just as we can do at home. But, I thought we could stand at the rail this morning & watch the horses on the track & then go home. That was going to be our Belmont experience. He has barely said 2 words since we came back home today.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent. Maybe, one day, we will see MTB in person & also Flying Private, too.

I like watching the Weiner Nationals from Los Al ("The Belly That Scorched the Earth"), but I am left with the feeling that the weenies are hard to train.

Dogs rule!! Cats belong in the barn

English Springer Spaniel, great with kids and will hunt pheasant until they drop. As kind and gentle as any dog I have ever seen. I miss the one I had.

I am excited to get to see Hull run tomorrow. I love anything from Holy Bull. It was disappointing when they opted not to run him in the Preakness. Mine That Bird looks incredible arriving at Belmont and Steve's article just confirms how this little guy wins everyone's heart (that is if they have one, Draynay)

Reading so many statements from people about how they got into racing, the concensus seems to be that they fell in love with a horse. That is what it takes and I sure hope that all those casual fans out there who have fallen for Bird are sucked into our wonderful sport.

About the dogs - the best dog in the whole world is my 15 year old Golden, Beau. He has always been gentle and laid back, even as a puppy. He is so loving, empathetic and kind, even cats love him. (I love cats too) He is my best bud.

Thanks for all the comments on dogs. I am with you on Bernese Mountain Dogs Zipsecret. They are terrific. All you cat people can stop it. They dont compare to dogs. Please dont force me to go any further with this.

Rechelle: Last favorite to win the Belmont was Afleet Alex in 2005.

Greg J: Benny has no chance. Fab Strike is a monster at Belmont and 9-for-14 at 6 furlongs. Thanks for your donation to my kid's college fund :)

Manoa Tommy: Are you kidding me with those picks? I hope you're not going to blow all that money you won in the Preakness on those horses. You are better than that.

da3hoss, You take that back! Geld Mr. Hot Stuff??? Thank goodness they didn't do that to Man O'War! He was just as high-strung and we would have missed out on so many great horses, including Mr. Hot Stuff. Not saying he's great. Yet. I think Mr. Harty just gets aggravated with him because he's more work. Maybe MHS just needs a new trainer that would fit him better.

BTW,

I will take my Cat "Cheetah" over any ones dog...Even though English Setter's are the best dog out there(Had one growing up!). He and my Horse, "Comanche" (A retired TB!, Who actually won a few races!), They were the Best of Friends!, They would actually sleep in the Barn together, Pretty cool seeing a 1200 pound Monster, Sleeping with a 60 pound English Setter.....Anyways, Can't wait for the Final Picks Jason...

I was at the dog park last night and doing my civic duty by scooping up doggie poops. I brought my bucket along and when I finished I was taken completely by surprise when the "poops" started to move. Upon further examination I had inadvertently scooped up a pair of weiner dogs. How was I to know? They looked like poops.
