Overview of the Ordering Process
(Note:  click on any thumbnail image to view larger detail.)

  A.  Visit the TrueNicks.com Reports console. If you are already registered, log in -- otherwise, you should create your free account.

  B.  In "Step 1" of the order report console, type in the name of your mare and select "Find." We used "Rags to Riches" in our example.

  C. A verification screen will list all horses with the name you've chosen.  Please click "Select" next to the correct mare.

  D. The mare's name will now appear in the verification box on the main order screen.  Note that you may now choose to select additional mares at this point (repeat steps "B" and "C" above).

  E. In "Step 2," you can set the criteria for your stallion search.  Choose the low and high dollar amounts for your desired stud fee range, and select the area to include (or retain the default for all areas). In the sample report (depicted), we have requested all stallions with fees between $50,000 and $500,000.  We elected to remove A.P. Indy and Bernardini from the list because of their close relationship to Rags to Riches, our subject mare.  This is facilitated by selecting the horse(s) and pressing "Delete."

  F. You may also enter stallion names manually.  Here, we've entered "Jallad."  Press "Find" and confirm the correct stallion.

  G. Scrolling down the list of selected sires, we see that Jallad has been added to the list.

  H. For our example, we have selected 50 stallions (as noted in green text at the upper right corner of "Step 2").  When you are finished selecting stallions, press "Submit Request" within "Step 3."

  I. The Order Confirmation page details your request.  You must now click "Submit request" for the order to be processed.

   10. An email will arrive within 12 hours to alert you that your report is ready for download.  Click the report link within your email to return to the TrueNicks reports console and view your Broodmare Analysis report.

  • Scot's reply:  Hmmm... I'm not running into any problems when I input your mare's name.  I've emailed you so we can figure out where the error might be.  Thanks for asking!

Do you use the total foal crop of a stallion or just winners and SW when generating the hypothetical nicking choice?

  • Scot's reply:  The TrueNicks calculation considers every foal by the stallion, and every foal bred on the same cross, when rating each nick.  That's one of the biggest advantages of partnering with The Jockey Club Information Services -- we're using the full database of the official recordkeeper of the Thoroughbred breed.

A reader asks about the benefits of purchasing a Broodmare Analysis report versus obtaining complimentary ratings from the 350+ stallions subscribed to the pedigree nicking service.

TrueNicks 16 Jan 2009 11:26 AM

There are several advantages. Firstly, if time is money, one has to allow for the cost of the time involved in running a mare against each stallion, then sorting the results.

In addition, the Broodmare Analysis allows the user to hypothetically mate the mare with any stallion (throughout the world), whether or not the stallion is subscribed to any nicking service. The results are then sorted by TrueNicks Rating and Broodmare Sire Improvement Index, which brings us to...

Finally, only mare owners who purchase the TrueNicks Broodmare Analysis will have access to the BSII (Broodmare Sire Improvement Index) which shows how much the sire or sire line has improved the broodmare of broodmare sire line. This gives broodmare owners a unique perspective on the proposed mating.

I am interested to know if the Broodmare Analysis allows you to name a stallion who is pensioned or deceased (so I can see the ratings on some of her previous foals)?

  • Scot's reply:  The Broodmare Analysis report is available for all active stallions worldwide.  Our standard report (http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/truenicks/equinline_access.html) is available for all stallions and mare registered in 1970 and later, however -- this would allow you access to ratings for your mare's previous foals.

I HAVE 7 MARES IN TRINIDAD I WOULD GIVE YOU THE NAMES AND THE STALLIONS WE HAVE WHAT WOULD IT COST FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS  THANK YOU JOE

  •  Scot's reply:  Thanks, Joe.  The Broodmare Analysis report allows you to run one mare or several against the stallions of your choice.  Single reports cost $195 and allow you to run hypothetical matings with one mare and up to 50 stallions.  If you purchase multiple reports, the cost goes as low as $105 each.

If I give you my mare, and I choose 25 stallions I want to use, will your system give me the next best 25 as well as mine for the $195.

  • Byron's reply: Interesting question and a good idea for a new product. We have a concept for a similar product called "B+ or better" and another product called "10 plus 1" which sort of do similar things to what you are suggesting above. We have got a fair bit on the development plate at the moment but both these products are up for scope and development later this year. If you have any other ideas please don't hesitate to send them along to me or Scot

  • Scot's reply:  Just to add quickly to Byron's comments... the Broodmare Analysis report DOES allow you to select stallions by name AND have the system select stallions by your other criteria (location, stud fee).  Mix and match as you see fit ... add stallions or delete them if one of your searches brings up stallions that don't interest you.  This report will run your mare against up to 50 stallions (any stallion in the world -- he doesn't have to be subscribed to TrueNicks!) and will rank the resulting scores from highest to lowest.
