TrueNicks ratings are determined by stakes winners to starters on the cross, relative to how each element has done with all other lines. The "C" rating is for Pulpit and his sons with Northern Dancer line mares:

There have been 300 starters on this cross, for 15 black type winners (5.0%). While there are several good horses within the 15 (Sky Mesa, Laragh, Mini Sermon, etc.), 5% stakes winners to starters is slightly below average (variant 0.89 compared to average of 1.00).

"C" is not a bad rating, but it does indicate that combining the Pulpit sire line and Northern Dancer broodmare sire line has produced stakes winners at a rate no better than average, and there is not an obvious affinity between the two lines.

The good news is that the cross has produced top level horses, and as Byron explains in his analysis, there are pedigree elements that increase the appeal of this particular mating.

His looks, pedigree ,and performance back that up. I especially like the cross with Nureyev mares! The inbreeding to Special is another plus for hip # 25 ! I think though the rating should be a little higher but, you are the expert :)
