Thought you might be interested to look at the pedigree of Dubawi's latest G1 winner, Secret Admirer. She is out of a mare by a son of Seeking The Gold making her 3x3 to him.

Today Poet's Voice and Makfi will hopefully do battle for the QUEII with Frankie Dettori and Poet's Voice fractionally my choice to beat Makfi!

French Navy bears an uncanny resembalance to Shamardal and won beautifully. Maxim Guyon gave him a fantastic ride just as he did Prince Bishop!

I love Astrophysical Jet and am glad she is being given time and is not racing again this year! She should fly to victory a lot in sprints in 2011 - God willing!

Majestic Dubawi and Ragsah are both lovely and are in good hands so should train on.

Bernardini could be the next superstar stallion for the Seattle Slew line! I certainly hope so!

I hope that it is indeed understood that by describing him in one role as 'minor' the body of work attributable to Seeking the Gold is anything but.

Contrary to your examples, Seeking The Gold did best with Nijinsky II, Seattle Slew, Pleasant Colony and, I hate to say, to some extent with Storm Cat. The first three provided him with more height/leg-as did Colorado Dancer (Fall Aspen's daughter). I was very familiar with Fall Aspen (almost owned her prior to the Roebling dispersal, and did own her full-brother, McCracken). (A sin that Change Water wasn't, and Fall Aspen couldn't have been bred to Buckpasser-said this well before the birth of Dubai Millennium). Fall Aspen did, most likely, give Colorado Dancer (Fall Aspen's best looking product) her size. As said, although they were a distinct minority, many of Seeking The Gold's best (including Bob And John) were taller types. So, it appears to me that giving Seeking The Gold height (needless to say, through the mate) was a relative positive. And some of those tall Seeking The Gold mares proved to be very good producers. I had mentioned all this because Dubawi (albeit one generation removed) appears not to fit this mold.-and, closer up, neither does Petionville nor Mutakddim... I cringe each time I read your assessment of Seeking The Gold as a minor sire of sires. While he, thus far, is that, many might incorrectly derive that he is also a minor influence which he decidedly is not. For my money he possessed the MOST valuable recent "genetic material".

re: Dubawi Domination

Sceptre,

Seeking the Gold is an interesting "minor" sire of sires with Petionville, Mutakddim and Secret Savings all making some impact in different countries at various times of their lives. It is interesting that Seeking the Gold can get a tall, lean type but I think in the case of Dubai Millennium it is more likely that this size came from his female family, with his grand-dam being Fall Aspen, a mare whose offspring were generally big, tall and rather plain.

I think it is interesting that outside of Caerleon, the broodmare sires of his best runners - Green Desert, Rahy, Chief's Crown, Petong, Barathea, Singspiel - are all medium sized to small stallions, more like Dubawi than Dubai Millennium.

I am not sure that the European market shies away from these types at all. After having years of Sadler's Wells and sons of Danzig and Blushing Groom tearing it up over there, the medium sized horse remains in favor there. Obviously the American market is a different story.

Curious, though, that several of the best Seeking The Gold female runners (and producers) were atypically (for Seeking The Gold) tall, as was Dubai Millennium. Also, if Dubawi's "type" is much contributory to his success, funny that yearling buyers tend to shy away from this now in preference for the taller/fuller sorts.

We have been talking about this horse quite a bit from a couple of angles and one certainly that comes up is that he (Dubawi)is an "average" horse in all senses of the word - he is not too big, too long, too heavy nor too light - he is just right in the middle of average as a physical type.

Byron

This horse should be able to get top class winners from 5 to 12 furlongs for years to come.

Yes, Dubai Millennium's stallion career was very brief and who knows what may have come, but it does appear that Dubawi is the better. The reasons for this (not all that apparent to me) could provide valuable insight re-how we evaluate bloodstock prospects. It's likely that those at Godolphin possess some of the clues and, perhaps, unbeknownst to them, clues which provide wider application. For instance, Dubai Millennium is clearly the "better bred" of the two, was also the better performer, and both shared similar (distance) aptitudes. One could also argue that Dubawi is the more stoutly bred of the two, yet his stallion success is largely due to sprint and middle distance types. While I was diappointed, in general, with the types of pedigrees offered Dubai Millennium in his first (and only) book, he still received a higher quality mare than did Dubawi. What is apparent, however, is the disparity in conformation/body type. Dubawi is smaller, and far more compact, and seems to sire that type, whereas reports indicated that Dubai Millennium's were generally taller and larger and, perhaps, more backward (Dubawi among one of the exceptions). But, my distant observations may bear little on the true reasons. Would be most interested to learn Godolphin's take.
