Workforce's half-sister Spectacle was never a factor in her 7 furlong race at Newmarket finishing 17th of the 19 runners. Juddmonte Farms still won the race though with Make A Dance who is a daughter of the Belmont winner Empire Maker.

Before Workforce comes over for the Breeders Cup Turf, his 2 year old half-sister Spectacle is ready for her first race.A grey filly by Dalakhani she will run in the first race at Newmarket on Saturday.

Since the movie "Secretariat" was just released, I am wondering about the subsequent career of Sham. I don't see him in any pedigrees, so I assume he was a gelding. Also, what about Riva Ridge, his name doesn't appear in pedigrees that I have noticed? Thank you

A curious pedigree angle of the Arc is that both the first and second share in their pedigrees the name of Sanctus (Fine Top - Sanelta, by Tourment). A winner of the Prix de Jockey Club and the Grand Prix de Paris in 1963 for M. Jean Ternynck (of Sea Bird's fame), he was a useful stallion in France. In Workforce he appears through Santa Quilla, Miesque's granddam, and in Nakayama Festa, through Dictus, maternal gradsire of that horse's sire, Stay Gold. You will find that Sanctus, who hails in tail female line to Plucky Liege, has a lovely pedigree, with balanced linebreeding to Gainsborough, Teddy and Blenheim, and two male lines of Bruleur, in the first five removes. Workforce was a worthy winner but don't forget the gallant second Nakayama Feste who did absolutely nothing wrong in second! Nakayama Feste seems to be getting overlooked!

The Arc 2010 was amongst the roughest races I have ever seen. Lope de Vega got knocked sideways and then seemed not to stay after going to the front, so ran a great race in the circumstances. If this Shamardal colt remains in training he could be a major player over 1 mile to 1 mile and 1/4 next year!

Behkabad saw little daylight and this imposing colt would be one i would consider for top honours over middle distances if he stayed in training in 2011. He was not abused once his chance was gone, he is in the hands of truly great horsemen and has one of the best jockeys around to guide him.

Sarafina ran on strongly and is a grand filly! Many of the others did not have a cahnce the way the race was run and there were hard luck stories galore.

Workforce demands the utmost respect but so do some of those behind him!

It was good to see Workforce bounce back in the Arc after his disappointing run in the King George. His win in the Epsom Derby was so impressive something had to be wrong. His unraced dam Soviet Moon being a Sister to St. Leger winner Brian Boru gives him lots of stamina. As he is so lightly raced I think there should be a good chance he will be over for the Breeders Cup Turf.
