It was the only time I saw Nijinsky in the flesh that first race as a 2 year old but I often think back to it as you never forget the great ones. Of the horses I saw in the flesh in those days before coming to Canada in 1970 the one I think back the most to is the one and only time I attended the Arc in 1968 when Vaguely Noble got the better of Sir Ivor. He was not classic entered and I have often wondered what kind of record he could have had as Sir Ivor had won the Epsom Derby and Lester Piggott rated him very highly. It was a great thrill for me to watch his daughter Dahlia win the 1974 Canadian International at Woodbine.

I didn't see Nijinsky II in the flesh, but he is the first great horse I remember racing (I was a child in England). What's scary is that you could be 40+ and he'd still be nothing but a name from history!

It seems just like yesterday when I watched his sire Nijinsky run as a 2 year old on July 12th 1969 at The Curragh and realize what great potential that son of Northern Dancer had.
