&lt;p&gt;The variant is the product of the TrueNicks calculation. Average (1.00) means that the cross gets stakes winners at a rate equal to the sire and broodmare lines. Since the numerical scale is not linear, variants are divided into letter grade bands A, B, C, etc. It&amp;#39;s best to use the letter grade to compare matings.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Well, technically they could ship semen, but any resulting foal could not be a registered Thoroughbred as The Jockey Club requires live cover. Also, Thoroughbred semen does not freeze well, and the time to ship it across the globe would be a huge barrier.&lt;/p&gt;
