There was lots of entries for this race so it was split into two divisions and in the second division another son of Galileo, Sun Central ran very green but was running on to finish 7th of the 13 runners. Owned by Lael Stables he is out of the Alysheba mare, Bordghera making him a half-brother to George Washington.

We tend to remember the successes, and forget the failures. Also, while today's US gene pool may not be what it once was relative to other countries', it is better than what it was in the '30s-early '50s. The Euros once had clearly the best, and now they have likely caught up, if not somewhat overtaken us. It's close, though, so in that regard, no real edge to a Cape Blanco over our unprovens. But, we haven't bred for the turf for a long time, so for this surface (and, perhaps, synthetic) I suppose they have a bit more edge. Still, it's my take that Cape Blanco (notwithstanding that he's sired by Galileo) is not one to go to.

If the 1942 runner-up in the Middle Park Stakes, Nasrullah had not been sent to North America I dread what racing in this continent would be like today. There would have been no Secretariat, no Ruffian and that is just for starters. So think very carefully before you critizise a successful son of Gallileo like Cape Blanco coming to these shores. Spiders make cobwebs for a reason.

I am thrilled to have this son of Galileo here at stud and further overjoyed that we will have the great Australian racer and sire Lonhro here next year. It was due to the infusion of european bloodlines in the early part of the 20th century that we developed some of our greatest runners. Thinking like richard limits breeders and I for one am happy to see stamina being brought back into the american bloodlines. We have slowly over the years lost them as more people started thinking only of dirt racing and speed/sprinters. It's a shame when we forget what the Thoroughbred was originally developed for...stamina. Whether on the dirt or the turf.
