Who knows, it may prove instructive to your readers, if not to Mr. Porter. -

You term this a "smart ("clever") pedigree".

You cite as evidence, 1) rated A by TrueNicks, 2)Full-siblings Mr. Prospector-Red Ryder 3x3, 3) Linebreeding to Nantallah through two of his best producing daughters, also yielding multiple linebreeding to the near-pedigree of Nashua... First, two minor points: The fact that there are 13 SWs having both Mr. P and Red Ryder, or Mr. P and Search For Gold in their pedigrees means little without knowing the total number of offspring from such cross(s)...2nd minor point, and one familiar to you- It seems illogical that you would classify this pedigree as an "A" nick. Needless to say, you were required to go back several generations for the affinity data required. Compare this to your "A nick" when there is sufficient data from the direct sire and broodmare sire alone. Are these "A"s equal in degree of confidence?

Now, to the more important issue, and I'll touch upon it only briefly: Researcher possesses appox. (on average) 18.75% Mr. Prospector genes (Red Ryder possesses, on average, 50% Mr. Prospector genes)-(Researcher received, on average, approx. 6.25% Mr. P. genes from his dam, Wild Magnolia). Consider had Wild Magnolia's damsire not been Red Ryder, but instead Bold Ruler or Northern Dancer. Are you suggesting that, on average, this exchange would have "weakened" Researcher's pedigree; made him less likely to have been the performer he is? Since you cannot have any statistics to offer as evidence, I'd like to hear your genetic rationale.
