It must have been a great relief to Richard Hannon as the stable was very confident that Canford Cliffs could have done the same to Frankel in this race 2 years ago but as we all know by now Frankel was a horse of a different class. Will Dawn Approach be kept at a mile to take on Toronado again? It is a possibility and the QEII at Ascot could become that race.

re: Royal Ascot Day 1: War Time

Dawn Approach continued the good start at stud for his sire New Approach. Unlike the connections of Frankel the decision was made to let him take his chance in the Epsom Derby at 12 furlongs but out of the blue he refused to settle and that was that. The 10 furlong Champion Stakes later in the season could be on his agenda but in the meantime I am looking forward to another good tussle between him and Toronado in the one mile Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. I was a little surprised to see Mars in this race as he is showing all the signs of being a top class 12 furlong horse but nevertheless run another good race to finish third. I hope they keep this one in training as a 4 year old as he should be even better then.
