I think a lot of breeders would go to Wise Dan, but unfortunately he's been gelded.

The Golden Slipper is the world's richest race for 2yos, held at Rosehill in Sydney at the Easter Carnival. E&E has sired a number of good, fast 2yos; but he also has sired the very good miler Excelebration, don't forget. And his Helmet won a Guineas (at Caulfield) down in Australia. Black Caviar won at 1400m (7f) and on a stiff 6f at Ascot, so a miler sort on Australia's relatively level courses is not out of the question for the mating.

The interesting things to me are that the resulting foal will have, from the sire's damside, crosses of Citation and Carry Back, two great runners whose sire impact is considered nil these days, and that it will be inbred 5 x 6 to the half-brothers Watch Your Step and Bolero, both out of the Wise Counsellor mare Stepwisely, a half-sister to the dam of Count Fleet.

Wise Counsellor was an odd bird. He was the last major representative of the sireline of *Glencoe via Hindoo and Hanover in the US, and his damsire was of the sireline of *Leamington; indeed, he had three sons of *Leamington in his third generation - Onondaga, Eolus, and Iroquois, the first USA-bred to win The Derby. The top 2yo of 1923, Wise Counsellor is best known for winning the International Special #1, in which he bested the French champion Epinard, for whom the international series was created. A good sire of juveniles was Wise Counsellor, and he had a couple of sons go to stud, but the line essentially ended with him.

It does my heart good to see the less-treasured old American bloodlines such as those carried by Exceed and Excel's second dam Gladiolus, herself a hard-knocking winner of 17 of 44 starts and a multiple SW, still in the mix. You may say E&E's success is derived from his intense Natalma/Northern Dancer concentration in the top 3/4s of the pedigree, but I say that Gladiolus gave that structure a solid foundation.

Her owners must desire another sprinter to carry on like she did. If you want a sprinter, breed 2 sprinters together
