I have a mare "Cry Like Crazy" by "Wild Syn" by "Wild Again" mare who is "Diabolo" bred on the dams side. I am looking to breed to a "Wild Again" stud. I am curious as to what the thoughts are on that cross as I have been watching the auctions and not seen a similar cross.

On Sunday, Hirschy, the 2-year-old mentioned above from the first crop of the Smart Strike horse Papa Clem, out of a Wild Again mare, won the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes at Santa Rosa.

As a footnote, today (Saturday), the Ta Wee Stakes at Gulfstream Park was won by Millennia, by Milwaukee Brew (by Wild Again) out of a mare by Regal Classic (half-brother to the dam of Smart Strike), so having several of the elements mentioned above.

There's not much data yet on Wild Again/Smart Strike (Smart Strike still a young broodmare sire), but it would be an interesting mating on the basis of the reverse cross. Offlee Wild has a good record with Mr. Prospector line mares (TrueNicks "A"), and Wild Again sons overall have 6% SW from starters out of mares carrying Vice Regent within three generations.

As a result, most strains that are close up in his pedigree are now part of the warp and weft of the breed in general (this may be one reason why Wild Again became so famous for siring stakes winners out of a remarkable range of different broodmare sires).

Wild Again was by a grandson of Nearco (Icecapade, 3/4 relative to Northern Dancer) out of a mare by Khaled (by Hyperion). Oddly enough, both his grandsire and his dam are Nearco/Hyperion or Hyperion/Nearco crosses. His granddam, Dama II, is a close relative to Nasrullah.

Smart Strike's second dam, No Class, is a Hyperion/Nearco cross. His third dam, Classy Quillo, is by Outing Class (by Nasrullah, and also a Nearco/Khaled cross), and if you look at Wild Again/Classy Quillo as a hypothetical mating you'll see that nine of the 16 individuals in the fourth generation of Wild Again are in the pedigree of Classy Quillo (along with the closely related Dama II/Nasrullah who are in the second generations of the respective horses). Smart Strike is out of a mare by Smarten, and where Wild Again has a double of the Nearco (Pharos)/Hyperion combination, Smarten's dam is Fairway (brother to Pharos)/Hyperion.
