Like the sire, many of them toe out a bit, but they seem to be remarkably sound. I've read that the Prince John line is known for soundness. I would like to hear comments on that? We are very proud of Cause To Believe and what he has accomplished in such a short time! Unfortunately, our region too is seeing a dramatic decline in the breeding industry. A decade ago we were producing 800 foals in our province, last year less than 200 mares were bred.

When Mill Reef won the 1971 10 furlong Eclipse Stakes at

Sandown Park he was emulating his grand-sire Djeddah who won

it in 1949.Never Bend/Prince John have a remarkable strike rate when it comes to top class performers between 10-12 furlongs in which the Aga Khan has been a major beneficiary.

On Never Bend/Prince John, in Europe we had Riverman, and then Mill Reef, whose dam was bred on the same cross as Prince John. They've combined very well in pedigrees, frequently Aga Khan ones.

Here in Ontario the local Government has been very severe in regarding funding for the future of breeding top class thoroughbreds in this province. Hopefully things will change. If I just might add to the latter part of your article, Prince John who was out of a dam by the American Triple Crown winner Count Fleet, Not Afraid and Never Bend who was by Nasrullah have had more than their share of good winners ''Lurking In The Background''.
