&lt;p&gt;Yes, Speightstown wasn&amp;#39;t actually late-maturing, just had a series of minor problems. It&amp;#39;s a tribute to his management that they perserved in the way they did.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m sure that he&amp;#39;ll make another very strong run at the title next year.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Happy New Year and it,s good to see another article from you as your knowledge of breeding is second to none. Although it&amp;#39;s true what you say Speightstown did not win a stakes race till he was six when I saw him run at Woodbine as a 2 year old he always looked something special and I&amp;#39;m sure there is more to come from him in the breeding shed.&lt;/p&gt;

U.S. turf dominance aside, he&amp;#39;s the real deal. And his pedigree, which at the time of his retirement appeared to be nothing all that special, is now rather mouth-watering-his dam, clearly a blue hen, and his sire in retrospect, a near-elite. Should stallion age not become too much a factor for him, he could well rise even farther...As an aside; is it just my misperception, or are we running far more turf races today? &lt;/p&gt;
