Now here's a stallion that should sire sound, quality offspring, isn't that right..? Lets hope Tapit's offspring last longer on the track than he did. He did retire with a racing injury, didn't he..?

@ Jennie Sometimes a stallion needs a little trial & error before the breeders figure out what kind of mares to send to him, both physically and pedigree-wise. Smarty Jones is starting to come around, but I highly doubt he'll serve at $100K again.

How is Smarty Jones doing?? Is it still too early to write him off. Some stallions need a year or two to get their winners out there.

After starting his stud career for a $100,000 fee, Smarty Jones is nowhere to be found among the leading second-crop sires. Any idea why he has had such a poor start as a stallion? And have there been any stallions who have started off so slowly and then eventually rebounded to become a good sire?

IMO Tapit could end up being a sire of sires with his almost perfect pedigree. First he is from sire of sire Pulpit o/o sire of sire AP Indy. He is also inbred to the three most dominate sire lines of Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, and In Reality. He is also from the same female family as Relaunch. Tapit may be the start of something special that we can follow throughout our lifetime. My only concern is that his offspring are not running 'uberfast' numbers with the top Rag from his offspring is a 6 or 7.

Has Grand Slam really cooled off??? It seems he use to throw really precocious first time starters.

The last two years, I really have not seen too much from him.

Of course he is doing well. He was my Derby horse, and ALL of my Derby horses do well (after the Derby). Keep an eye out for big things from Hold Me Back.
