They get an excellent True Nicks rating. Although I am not sure she has distance limitations as some have speculated, his pedigree has plenty of winners at 10 furlongs and more. Even though he did not win past 9 furlongs, there were possible reasons for his losses in those attempts. I also really like the double crosses of Native Dancer and Northern Dancer! Even though some would disagree, I have seen a HUGE number of stakes winners with that breeding! Go Native Dancer!

Do you mean, which of these five?

Being realistic, as I've stated before, I prefer Birdstone. You really can't ignore the cross, both top and bottom, of Silent Screen and Caps and Bells.

Of these five, no to Curlin and although I like Dynaformer, he's a huge horse and don't need bigger.

I'd pick A.P. Indy, if it's just a choice between the five.

But my choice for RA would be:

Olympic Times

www.yorkshirefirst.co.uk/.../horses.html

MOW on top through Relic this time, although still the War Relic line and a mare line that goes to MOW;s brother with a lot more MOW/Fair Play thrown in.

This would be my pick for bringing back a Matchem line stallion.

But hey, this guy, although he raced, is more known for sport horses now. Then again, the MOW/Fair Play line produced it's share of outstanding sport horses too.

This is to concentrate and bring back the Matchem line and has little to do with racing reality, I know!

re: Your Turn: Time to Suggest a Mating for Rachel Closes FRIDAY!

OK, this is too late but its for fun anyway?

Not that this would ever happen...

I do not like Curlin for RA. No matter the idea of champion to champion, every description I read of RA says she's a big filly and that Curlin is a bull of a horse. NO, NO, NO! Let's not put bulk on top of already big horses.

Birdstone-

I get no rating for this but Birdstone would have to add some distance to RA's pedigree. (I'm one of the one's that think she's a wee bit distance limited)

What is very interesting about the cross is that you get Silent Screen top and bottom (Champion two-year old of 1969) and also the mare Caps and Bells who seems to have been no slouch as a broodmare. Maybe this wouldn't be the best racing pedigree but I think the best chance for producing a sire.

To reverse myself on distance needs, I like Hat Trick although that shouldn't get you much but maybe a brilliant sprinter. Rates a D. However, Hat Trick does bring in, if you look enough, a fair amount of the Man O' War/Fair Play lines that are in RA's pedigree. RA's dam line includes the interesting mare Ellen's best, by War Relic, out of a dam line back to full sister of War Relic, Speed Boat. Tricky Code, dam of Hat Trick, brings in the same lines through Speed Boat and Anchor's Away, full sisters to War Relic. Hat Trick also has the less seen MOW, Free France and Peace Chance who goes back to Fair Play. More in his background (Flaming Swords, Stymie had MOW top and bottom, Battlefield, Mad Hatter ((Fair Play)), Friar Rock ((Rock Sand over Fair Gold, dam of Fair Play))) but the only thing I don't like is that those genes don't seem to produce stayers any more. At least, not this far away.

On the theme of crossing RA on Man O' War/Fair Play/Matchem line stallions, Request for Parole (Now in Argentina) does it a bit; Bright Launch, which gets an A++ rating, carries the line in spades through Relaunch with War Admiral in his dam line (War Tide) plus another dose in the dam line of Fair Play through Etoile Filante; Mystic Replica, not a known stallion for racing but for sport, is sire line MOW through Relic this time with a dam line that includes Hard Tack on the top and dam line to Day Play by Mere Play by Fair Play.

Valid Expectations is another MOW line stallion that rates A++ on true nicks.

My heart says pick up as much of that MOW/Fair Play in the background as you can with the idea of producing a Matchem-line stallion. (OK, Hat Trick would not do that, sire-line wise)

Realistically, I think Birdstone is the most interesting cross with potential not just as a race horse, but to produce a very good sire or dam.

Stephen's just getting warmed-up. A.P. Indy is his sire plus he brings to the table the legendary Blushing Groom line thru his dam, Immerse. Although Rahy would have been the more obvious choice when thinking about Blushing Groom, he’s been recently pensioned. Please take a peek at Immerse’s sire Cox’s Ridge – his racing record and his black-tie family. We’re talking about Best Turn (out of a Swaps mare and sire of Davona Dale), Turn-To and Royal Charger.
AP Indy

Dynaformer

Smart Strike

If SO then you probably have to remove AP Indy and Dynaformer because of their ages, move Smart Strike up and add Rock Hard Ten and maybe Smarty Jones. I agree with the earlier post about the "personality" that a RA/SJ offspring would possess!

Think, Smarty Jones, Ravens Pass, Quality Road! Quality Road just defeated a track record, right after a recovery. C:

I have to so no with Dynaformer; he can throw some all-turf babies and she hasn't ran on turf.

Also, it would be good to breed her with a distance stallion.

Distorted Humor.

This mating has a True Nicks Rating of A++ and a variant of 148.76.
