P. Indy which is not represented well in other nicking services and indeed is why an opportunity based program such as TrueNicks which looks at all the foals bred on a cross has an advantage

re: Q&A - Why Doesn't Aptitude Rate Well Wth Mr Prospector Line Mares?

Just to clarify, if you look up a son of AP Indy crossed with Mr. P line mares, will foals with AP Indy as the sire be included in the calculation?

It depends on the stallion. If it is a son of AP Indy that does not have enough runners bred on the cross then it is most likely that it will be calculated on “AP Indy and his sons” which means that it would include AP Indy and all the sons that have been mated to Mr Prospector line mares (which could vary on the strain of Mr Prospector depending on what is used).

Also, how far back do you go for the damside ancestor? For instance, in a cross between X and Fappiano, do you include matings between X and Fappiano daughters, Fappiano paternal granddaughters, and Fappiano patrilineal great-granddaughters?

The furthest back we look is the Grandsire of the Broodmare sire, his sons & grandsons. If we have an old broodmare sire, like say Fappiano mated to a young stallion for example then the logic “looks forward” if you like in the pedigree gathering data on sons and grandsons of Fappiano that have been bred to the sire (and in the case of a sire with no runners the sire of the sire and his sons). Alan also designed a series of “faceoffs” to deal with times where calculations can be made on crosses that are "generation-ally" the same. Take for example the mating of Sire/ Grandsire of the Broodmare sire, his sons & grandsons and Sire of the Sire and his sons/ Sire of the Broodmare Sire and his sons. From a generational perspective we are talking 1x3 and 2x2 so they are both the same. When the calculation can be made for both we have a logarithmic "faceoff" between the two to find the most relevant and return that to the user.
