Just now seeing this. Hardest Core was a bold upgrade for us with a 'vs' effort in the debut, an impressive 'vs' effort in his 2nd turf start, and then a nice support grade next out. Those that needed more and chose to dig into the pedigree should have seen that he'd relish 10f. As a bonus, McLaughlin trainees adding Lasix should be given extra consideration.

I see Midnight Watch as a future stakes winner. Ortiz did not need to gun her like he did, she is a horse that does not need the lead.

If my computer was not down, I would have posted about Carnival Court, Hardest Core, and North Slope. Carnival Court's race was ultra impressive, my first thought as she crossed the finish line was Alabama! You are correct about North Slope, he is turning into a nice horse right now. I can tell you that he came out of the race well and he is kicking the barn down. He is ready to strike again soon. I did not wager on Make Your Move, but his time of 1:21 and change was a serious performance. The McLaughlin barn is firing on all cylinders at the moment.

I missed posting Amberjack too, his turn of foot was impressive at 12-1. I can't wait to bet him again at Saratoga.

I was not pleased with the tactics employed by CB. He was given too much to do. Calvin must come to the realization that he cannot win the Derby leaving from either last or second to last every time.

Golden Soul whom Revolutionary defeated handily in the LA Derby was ahead of him the entire distance and he drew post position #4.

He was the only horse that finished on the board that was stuck along the rails for over 9 1/2F.

He made a move at the top of the stretch but could not sustain it. His run was either compromised by the fact that he was on the inside portion of the track or he was a short horse entering the Derby.

Oxbow occupied the inner portion of the track for along way as well. He returned to win the Preakness. Now it's time for Revolutionary to secure a outside draw and justify my confidence.

He will again be my key horse

Belmont winners Drosselmeyer, Summer Bird, Rage To Riches, Jazil, Birdstone, Empire Maker, Sarava, Victory Gallop and Thunder Gulch were all products of mares from the Northern Dancer broodmare line.

Peter Pan winner Freedom Child was produced from a mare from the ND broodmare line. He has good tactical speed and with the history of the broodmare line should have the necessary stamina to carry same 12F. FC is a May foal and horses with said foaling dates have won many Belmont’s despite being classified as late foals.

Birdstone sired Derby winner Mine That Bird and Belmont winner Summer Bird in the same year. Malibu Moon is the sire of Derby winner Orb and could emulate Birdstone’s feat with a FC victory.

A very interesting probable is Golden Soul. He was produce from a Mr. Prospector mare. The great stallion sired 490 mares and to date none have produced the winner of at TC race. His mares must now be few in numbers and when seen in pedigrees of classic contenders, the question arises as to whether 10/12F is outside their scope. Golden Soul jointed Pulpit as the only horses produced from Mr. P’s mares that have made the Derby board. It would be a tribute to the great stallion if 14 years after his passing a horse produced from one of his daughters could win a race his stallion line has dominated for last 15 years.

re: The Arlington Classic

JayJay,

The A P Indy colt Powerful was brought to my attention by contributor Age Of Reason. At the time I cited that expensive horses rarely turn out to be champions. Based on his pedigree and the surface, the track surface and distance of the race he would have to be exceptional to win. He does not have a synthetic track pedigree and 6F is just too short for and A P Indy colt out of a Deputy Minister mare. How many 6F races did Belmont winners Jazil, Rags To Riches and Sarava win? They were all produced from Deputy Minister mares. The colt deserves to be re-evaluated when he makes a start on dirt.

Todd P seems to have a lot of luck with fillies. Unlimited Budget does not strike me to be capable of handling the boys. The last two fillies that defeated the boys in a TC race both won their respective Oaks efforts. With Todd's luck with the girls; I would not discourage anyone from including her in an exotic wager.

WTC will have to run as well as second place finisher Dunkirk who was also sired Unbridled Song to have a chance of winning. Dunkirk was an also ran in the Derby that skipped the Preakness. Historically horses that are off the board in both their Derby and Preakness efforts do not feature in the Belmont.

I think both Overanalyze and Giant Finish will be found wanting in the class department. However, it's a horse race and crazy things can happen. Who can forget Sarava?

Oxbow should not be discounted as the Lukas trained Editor’s Note finished 6th in the Derby like Oxbow and place 3rd in the Preakness and returned to win the Belmont. If the Preakness 3rd place finisher came back to win the Belmont the Preakness winner must have more upsides. Point Given, Afleet Alex and Risen Star to name a few lost the Derby and won the two remaining legs of the TC.
