As I do, I treat it all the same- just horses running around an oval.

Same rules apply, plus, we make a mean Fpx Flow figure, which helps with the multiple horses that run twice at the meet.

It's been a personal favorite for a few years - a great respite from the dog days of August six days a week schedule.

He also finished 4th in the Breeder Cup Classic.

Birdrun a chestnut sired by the diminutive Belmont winner Birdstone won the Won Brooklyn H. (G2,Bel,12f), Greenwood Cup S.(Prx,12f) 2nd Breeders' Cup Marathon (G2,CD,14F), One Count S. (Bel,10f) Birdrun also set the 8.5F Track Record of 1:39.38 at Belmont Park

Why the history overview?

The diminutive Belmont winner Birdstone has sired another promising chestnut that will face 11 other starters in the 8.5F Iroquios. The colt goes by the name Stonecrusher. He has made two starts to date with both being at 8F. Interestingly they were 21 days apart which is close for a 2YO whose debut was at 8F. He finished 2nd by 1L in his debut effort and 3rd by 1 3/4L in his 2nd start.

From close observation this colt does not look comfortable on turf but was none the less competitive on both occasions. Whereas his sire needs no introduction, his dam sire Preakness winner Gate Dancer should have broodmares that are capable of producing champions.

Gate Dancer was sired by Sovereign Dancer a son of Northern Dancer. The ND broodmare line is the best in TC history. Gate Dancer’s dam was sired by Bull Lea who sired Derby winners Citation, Hail Gail and Iron Liege Bull Lea was also leading broodmare sire in North America (1958, 1959, 1960, 1961). By extension Gate Dancer should have tremendous potential as a broodmare sire.

I know it does not work that way.

Stonecrusher has recorded two encouraging efforts in 8F races on a surface he clearly does not relish. He will make his dirt debut at 8.5F in the Iroquios. At a ML of 20-1 he appears to be an ideal colt for exotic wagers.

My colleagues think that I am either genius or I listen to horse whispers. This due to the extra ordinary amount of times I have wager on winners just by evaluating their demeanors and physical appearances.

This is not attempt to toot my own horn, but I believe I have the uncanning ability to select horses that will be competitive by viewing certain factors during post parades.

I am unable to post a litany of likely winners on this or any other blog as that is not my strong point. I applauded those who are capable of proposing winners from studying PPs, exercise reports and reviewing videos.

I will give my views on a particular horse in certain cases. However, this is not done in sufficient quantity or regularity for me to rack-up a record reflecting large numbers of winners.

It therefore makes no sense for anyone to highlight my dismal win record, when for me to have an opposite record would defy the law of averages.

He has only contested 5 races as a 4YO. He showed enough promise as a 3YO to suggest that further improvement was possible as a 4YO.

Many A P Indy line horses improve significantly as 4YOs. G1 winners Ron The Greek and Flat Out are from the A P Indy sire line and they were never top class 3YOs. They showed significant improvement as older horses.

Alpha was only beaten 7L in his first 2 starts as a 4YO in the US. As specified he was not fit enough to win either race. Alpha carries the genes of the great Nijinsky ll via his dam and he could be a much improved horse as a 4YO.

Time will tell.
