I loved California Chrome for all the reasons mentioned here and also felt the same about the few horses that had a chance. So, why was California Chrome a play at better than 3-1? I thought he was a good play at 2-1 because he was essentially the only strong contender. I reduced the field to maybe 5 horses, so 2-1 in a five horse field wasn't bad.

While I have embraced various forms of pace handicapping and distribution of energy, I am still a novice.

I have read about the Predictform Analysis and am really impressed with it. Being able to analyze who is moving forward or regressing is the key in my opinion to catching overlays and staying off weak horses.
