If the dirt track is wet on Saturday the results at Belmont will not mean much.

However, some of the top 3yos will be running. I will go with Wicked Strong if the track is dry.

For what it is worth, this is how Timeform ranks them as of Sept 21.

I remember last year's JCGC well. $3500 lying there on the table in the p4 for anyone to pick up....Two of the races, one for the ladies on turf, one for the boys, featured near unbeatable paired entries; all you had to do was single both on separate tickets (I thought Big Blue Kitten might get upset, having to come off the pace, though, so I preferred the distaff panel). In the JCGC, where I was inclined to look for an older horse, Flat Out didn't look like a good bet as the favorite (?), I didn't like Alpha on a dry track and Ron the Greek...I'd think about that at 12-1. Then I forgot about it, thought Palace Malice would run well (he did) and singled him on two cheap tickets. Ron the Greek went off at 22-1. Plod Boy Phil took him, and I might have piggybacked on his pick if I hadn't made my bets early and gone off to enage in some stupid activity in the muggle world...

So, I'm going into a difficult card with the bad juju of trying to get money back from a year ago.

We're getting a lot of nice, needed rain on the East coast but the conditions will be beautiful this weekend at Belmont.

derbygal : Totally agree, it's a much more competitive race as there are more than half if not all that has a really good chance at winning, depending on how the race unfolds. The AA has been billed as SB's race to lose and while I was high on SB after the LA Derby and higher after the Pac Classic, I don't think this race is something that is required except to keep the streak going...some would think that this is the 2nd stringers of older horses and it does look like it but sometimes, when you least expect it, the unbeatable becomes beatable by the most unexpected horse.

How about you and I play the late 0.50c P4 at Belmont ? We each pick one horse from races 7 to 9 then two each for the JCGC ? Let's see if we can hit the P4 with a $16 ticket :) You game ?

derbygal : Thanks for the line-up. I don't feel so confident anymore that Shared Belief will blow these guys away easily...I'm starting to think he's beatable in this race maybe because Ranagulzion made his guaranteed prediction and jinx'd him lol. Another 3 lbs might actually make a difference here against older horses. I think Imperative will run a similar race as the CT Classic where he tracked GoD except it'll be Mystery Train which he will put away at the top of the stretch and might actually have a shot at holding off Shared Belief. Will add Footbridge to make the tri and super a little juicy. SB with Imperative on top of FB and Footbridge. Why is Mystery Train a co-highweight with Majestic Harbor ?

The JCGC is one heck of a race and I still like Zivo to take this race, my main concern is Wicked Strong although this will be his 3rd straight race after the belmont and I'm wondering if he'll continue to get better or if he'll start tailing off for the year. Tonalist has a good shot with Belmont being his "home", he might redeem himself here. I'll have to play it by ear (or odds) to see who I'll play underneath Zivo and pick another horse that might beat him.

I'm in at Ky Downs. Great racing. I had high hopes for Sparkling Review in the 8th, disappointing scratch. Maybe Kee.

I'm absolutely thrilled that Palace Malice might race again next year! With a bit of luck, I think he could become the first horse to win two Met Miles since Gulch in 1987-1988. In any case, he's still got a chance to stamp himself as an all-time great! :)

Thanks for the update on Bold Conquest! I agree that the Distaff is shaping up to be a terrific race. I believe Beholder is rounding back to form just in time, and will have an edge over Close Hatches, but it will be interesting to see how things unfold in regard to the division championship. If Close Hatches wins the Spinster, then finishes second to Beholder in the Breeders' Cup, that would give her four grade I wins for the year, along with a grade III victory and a runner-up effort in the Breeders' Cup.

In contrast, assuming Beholder wins the Zenyatta and the Breeders' Cup, that would be two grade I wins for the year, along with a listed stakes victory and a fourth-place finish behind Close Hatches in the Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont. So the question is, if the above scenario unfolds, who would get the Eclipse award? I personally would side with Close Hatches, but the Breeders' Cup holds a lot of weight, and it's hard to say what the voters might do.

Keelerman : Exciting news about Palace Malice, although it's dependent on how the panel of vets sees him, your thoughts about him becoming a top older horse might come to fruition. The only horse that would top him has been retired (my WTC hehe). I hope they end up running him again. He's not a used up horse, his races are spaced out so if it was just a bruise and he recovers from it, it would be nice to see him back.

I lied, I don't have any thoughts about WTC's retirement except I'm just mad, don't know why.

Coldfacts : When you learn to post your opinions and respect other people's opinions, maybe you'll understand why you're being "attacked." LOL, "attacked"...you poke fun at me for picking Ulanbator, you questioned people's sanity for praising CC, you're questioning people for thinking Shared Belief is a good horse. You questioned trainers reputation as if there's proof.

Steve Asmussen, prior to that PETA video was considered a very very good trainer, a respected trainer. I never once saw you question him or even after the PETA scandal (maybe I missed it)...yet you spend a lot of time questioning Pletcher and Baffert because... why ? They're the top trainers out there and you had to post your so called "opposing views" to the point where you accused them of some crime without any ... yep, COLD FACTS. No one is saying they're saints, but it's quite obvious to me that you picked on them because they're the top trainers out there and you just had to oppose them. What I don't get is you question their reputation because you truly believe they drug their horses and yet you bet them....does this mean as long as you can make money, it's okay for them to drug the horses ?
