On this Thursday, only three races on the card were worth watching, and the first race - 2 1/16 miles over nine fences, with many quondam flat runners - was a fun one.

re: Half-Dressed Outfits and Full Field Routes

I usually love Saratoga, but this year is not working out so well for me. It took a great horse like GINGER PUNCH 1:53-2/5 to negotiate 1-1/8 miles! And I'm a big fan of TIZNOW and three of his foals have run the worst races of their lives at Saratoga this year. MERCHANT MARINE, who is a good horse, finished 6th by about 16 lengths! DA' TARA finished dead last (by what? 20 lengths or something?). And yesterday a nice filly named LATEST SCOOP was 7th by 18 lengths! The field-separation at Saratoga has been as bad this year as it was at Gulfstream Park. You'll see a winner by 3 lengths, 5 lengths back to the third horse, another 5 length back to fourth, etc. I think a lot of horses hate racing over this track.

I love COLONEL JOHN, and want to see him win the Travers, but I fear he will be one of the horses who just hates this track. After all, most of them do!
