Good catch, JW. I'll have to tell Hoge. You seem a better historian than he. Were you there in Saratoga, too?

Another Saratoga experience that some people get wrong - Secretariat was saddled on the grass course, not under the trees, when he ran in the Whitney as a three-year-old.

If I had a dollar for each guy who recalls standing next to Penny Tweedy in the backyard on that fateful day, I'd be a rich man.

Always good to remember Big Red's Hopeful -- and what came afterward, of course. One slight revision though: The Hopeful was 6.5 furlongs in 1972, not 7.

What a great diary and a great meet. Best race was the Travers as I had Afleet Express, will never forget when they flashed the 7! Siro's, Hattie's, and all the great places I love will be missed. Will see you next July Saratoga!

Afleet Express winning the Travers.

I held my breath for two minutes and then yelled in excitement for three!

Thanks Vic, I enjoyed all your diary entries. I'm happy you shared your time at the met. It helped me keep the flavor of the Spa alive when I was home and watching the races. You also helped me get up to speed when I got to town for a short week in August. Here is to 48 and more
