The guys picking winners for the newspapers aren't as assured of the same success, as the "First Lady of the Steeplechase" and D. Wayne Lukas score with hunch bets.

re: Goat Patrol and Just Goats

doesnt 30% get you into the baseball hall of fame? anything 30 and over is splendid

If there is no grey in a race, she doesn't bet. Over the years, since first betting on the "Grey Ghost" she has figured why mess with success and has almost a 60% win percentage. AARRRGGGHHH! (with a bow to Tom Durkin)

Does this make me crazy? OF COURSE! Would it work for me?? NO WAY! So how do I explain it?? NO CLUE!

My own personal plan involves one-named horses.. you know the ones I mean: Secretariat, Ruffian, Swaps, Kelso, Forego, Cigar, Curlin, etc, etc. Works pretty well about half the time so that's a pretty good percentage, too.

Wonder what sort of win ratio we'd get if we bet only grey horses with one name?????????????

The return on investment is the key barometer if overall a profit then Ok if not the handicapper is the same as me a loser at the ponies.

Making pics the day before the races is a huge obstacle... no scratch info...no track analysis(soft/firm,fast/muddy etc.)...no tote board clues in the abundant SPA maidens...just a real tough chore. If the handicapper is hitting 30% with these conditions, it's an accomplishment. Besides, you can only mention winning % if you reference the avg. payoff out of the 'cappers wins. Huge difference between a 30% guy sitting on chalk everyday vs. a guy trying to provide some thoughts and ideas.
