If he&amp;#39;d kept going like he had been, he&amp;#39;d have won it. I&amp;#39;ll cut him some slack since it&amp;#39;s his first race in a while. Colonel John is supposed to have his first try on turf this weekend. He doesn&amp;#39;t really strike me as a turf horse. What do you think?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Bill Mott&amp;#39;s not the only one whose birthday heralds the joyful start of the Saratoga season. &amp;nbsp;My birthday (which is the same as Harry Potter&amp;#39;s - although it was mine first!) is also this week, and well I remember the mornings watching the horse come thundering out of the mist on the backstretch and the hot glorious afternoons.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Looking forward to reading everything you have to day - rain days and all!&lt;/p&gt;
