Saw many a dad at the paddock with their young daughters, pointing out jockeys and horses...the daughters asking questions like "why do they were differect color silks in each race" and "why do two jockeys have the same silks"...some just in awe saying "oh I like that one daddy" as Brass Hat entered the paddock. I think some new fans were made yesterday. I loved how the track throws you back to a more innocent era. The picnic areas, the smell of cotton candy and peanuts, The sound of the dixieland band and the sheet makers outside the gate. Shaking hands and listening to stories told by Ron Turcotte was a thrill. My highlight was watching Better Talk Now run 2nd in the Sword Dancer....the fire still burns!

There have been some good ones this summer. Congrats to Telling, a well-deserving winner, sired by A.P. Indy, and trained by Steve Hobby, who has Chindi as a good luck charm. Good race for Better Talk Now & Brass Hat too. Wish I could have seen it!

That incredible stretch duel between Deputy Commander and Behrens in '97 in the Travers still sends chills.

However, a mile and a half on the turf for a major graded race is one of the reasons, turf racing is at the very best in both the east coast and in Canada. They even card claimers on the turf and many MSWs, as well.
