Mr Durkin has been a part of my racing landscape for ages; I'll miss his calls AND his humor terribly! My all-time favorites are his calls for ARRRRR and Doremifasolatido..........race calling does NOT get any better than that!

Thank you for honoring Tom Durkin with your column. Being a former New Yorker who attended races at Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga it was always wonderful to hear Durkin's calls and sheer enthusiasm through each race. I'm happy to hear that he will still call races for NYRA and I'll relish the opportunity of hearing his calls Belmont Stakes Day.

Food for thought...Good example how sometimes our talents and goals aren't in sync with other aspects of our nature (innate or acquired). Sounds like Tom should have "retired" from this even sooner. Mr. Durkin is a superb caller and has enabled us to enjoy the sport more for his talent. Stress has a way of taking its additive toll. I urge him to consider reducing his work load even further, and to use that time in constructive effort to benefit his health.
