When will that trained eye recognize that the churchill downs strip is causing way too many injuries and is one of the worst strips in the country? We lost 5 as the barely gr3 Giacomo won. Eskendreya...Lookin at Lucky...on and on. It's rock hard and super cuppy a half hour later.

Ah, but the definition of 'best' has taken a beating in the last couple of decades. Do you think he had 6f/7f-limited horses like Henny Hughes (the name of his 3rd dam Short Winded says it all) in mind? No, he went for classic-quality horses like Sir Gallahad III, Nasrullah, and Le Fabuleux. Think he would have bred to (much less stood) an unsound horse like Ghostzapper? 'Best' is a subjective judgment and involves more than winning a few high-class races or having the 'right' pedigree.
