Interesting article, not sure I have digested it properly even after reading it twice. It seems that the benefit of these changes go to the tracks...meaning money. I don't understand how these changes benefit the horses and their conditioning. I would think that increasing the number of long and short sprints earlier on would enhance their conditioning and bring them along more soundly as they are still developing at three.

Please illuminate as to how these changes are beneficial to the horses.

Thanks!

The Sham was run last year at 1m & 1/16th, flip-flopping distances with the R.B. Lewis, which last year was run at a 1m & 1/8th. Both were cut back a 1/16th of a mile this year.
