Here in the Southern Hemisphere we use the calendar year for our standings, so "broke in half" statistics don´t exist.

I don´t understand Eric´s reluctance to include purses won by USA horses exported to these countries.

I will have to remember that all attempts made by men to level up differences in a miriad of fields have proven to be a way to manipulate reality in the interest of few.

Anyways, publishing two statistics, one exclusive for USA earnings and another for worldwide earnings would be suitable for everybody.

Ok, ok... but, who was the real leading sire in USA last year? Because, Blood Horse says it was Distorted Humor, and Thoroughbred Times insist on Giant´s Causaway...

Horses bred & born in the United States are sold world wide. Whether they run on dirt, turf, synthetic, or over fences, all earnings should count. In is not difficult to include Southern Hemisphere earnings, as we use a calendar year, not a "racing season".

Stallions with larger books certainly are more likely to rank higher, so if that is a concern just add a % column for # of winners from registered foals.

Sounds reasonable. If you're going to include ALL runners, including steeplechasers, you'd kind of have to include southern hemisphere too, which could get complicated. The Blood Horse is really about flat-racing anyway so your plan might make these unwieldy statistics somewhat more manageable.

How would that affect a sire such as Dynaformer, whose progeny are versatile and include a lot of overseas and steeplechase runners? I believe he's been one of the top steeplechase sires for a few years.

What percent of breeders need sire list earnings for overseas...then publish according.
