It's unfortunate that some are unable to grasp the reality that race day medication is simply not acceptable in stakes races anymore.

What would be the public reaction to Usain Bolt, as an example, injecting medication prior to running in a race?He wins because...

USA horse racing has an image problem that can only be improved with the banning of race day medication. Alas, some can't see the forest for the trees.

There, in a nutshell, is why horseracing is having such a difficult time in staying viable. How many years has there been discussion about the use of drugs in horseracing as well as with prominent individuals in that industry endorsing these reforms? Recently, I watched a Breeders’ Cup broadcast filmed in 2000 where a known trainer expressed his opinion that drug reforms needed to be implemented. That was twelve years ago! There are those who fancy themselves as knowing what is best for horseracing when, in fact, they are the ones who will allow it to stagnate until it is no longer relevant in sports or public interest. Excellent article, Eric. Hit the nail on the head.

Great article by Eric Mitchell on the Kentucky HBPA - showing their true colours. Rick Hiles needs to step down, when racing goes through its periodic reforms you need people of integrity at the helm and alas Rick Hiles has shown himself to be anything but. People like him and causing massive harm to the racing industry and need to go, he is an outdated dinosaur
