Colonel John is the horse I rooted for in the Derby... he did not win but at least he is coming home... Congratulations to Big Brown and his connections! My sincere regrets for the loss of Eight Belles. I'm having a lot of problems reconciling my love of animals with my passion for horse racing... Don't know if I can get over it...

THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT COLONEL JOHN BELONGED IN THE DERBY AND DESPITE DUTROW'S COMMENTS AND HIS EFFORTLESS WIN THIS IS LIKE NO OTHER HORSE RACE COLONEL JOHN JUST DID NOT GET THE BREAKS IN THE RACE THAT YOU NEED BUT I THINK EVEN WITH A CLEAN TRIP HE WAS SIMPLY NOT AS GOOD A BIG BROWN THIS SATURDAY. BUT HARTY HAS DONE A PHENOMINAL JOB AND SHOWN A LOT OF CLASS IN HIS COMMENTS AND QUIET CONFIDENCE IN HIS HORSE. HE WIN SOME MAJOR RACES.

The Colonel's damsire, Turkoman, is an Alydar who took his sweet time before developing into a very fast horse and ultimately a source of class at a distance. That influence could point toward big things for this colt.

Colonel John is a monster! I think one more prep race would have been better for him, but I like the way Eoin Harty has brought him along so far. I usually don't like to see a horse run a 57 and change in his final tune-up for the Derby, but for some reason I think this was good for the Colonel. My gut feeling tells me that neither the Colonel nor Big Brown will be wearing the roses after the race, but someone named Bob Black Jack or Z Fortune might...

Yeah, Mr. Harty! Speaking with class and confidence about his horse. Loved Tiznow, but still have to put my money on Big Brown-think maybe they can quick put him in the Harty barn?!

I've been watching Colonel John since he broke his maiden last year and have been hoping he would make it to the derby, he looks like such a classy horse and love how he fights for the win. Good luck John.
