It is odd to see how interconnected events in the industry can be. Glennwood now send their youngsters over to Calumet to be readied for the track. That same connection produced a Stakes Winner on the west coast just this past Wednesday (March 23). The 5-year-old gelding DEACON SPEAKIN’ won the Portland Mile Handicap at Portland Meadows. He is by the STORM CAT son TIMBER LEGEND, a Calumet-bred yearling they sold to Aaron Jones for $1,000,000. DEACON SPEAKIN’ is out of the stakes-placed mare HAIL THE MINSTER, a John D. Gunther-bred half-sister to Gunther’s homebred multiple Grade 2 winner and current broodmare BENDING STRINGS.

But quite possibly Mr. Gunther’s best asset to Thoroughbred racing is having produced at least two racing enthusiasts through his children! Best wishes to the entire family.
