Horse of the Year - Final Arguments

The 3-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, winner of all eight of her starts in 2009, including the Preakness Stakes, and the 5-year old mare Zenyatta, who won all five of her races last year and culminated her undefeated career by becoming the first female to win the Breeders' Cup Classic, are the only two candidates for Horse of the Year. They were the only two horses to receive votes in the Horse of the Year category.

Winners in all categories will be announced at the 39th annual Eclipse Awards ceremony, to be held Jan. 18, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

With less than a week away before the winner is crowned, we're giving Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta fans a final opportunity to state their case. Here are the guidelines:

Filly of the Decade

The first 10 years of the new century have produced many superstar runners in North America. The editors have whittled down a lengthy list to what they believe to be the 12 best female runners of the decade (2000-09).

Now it's time for you to rank them in your order. Final results will appear in the Dec. 26th issue of The Blood-Horse.

We have assembled a dream race featuring some of the great fillies and mares of Thoroughbred Racing History. The race will be at a mile and an eighth on the dirt at Belmont Park. The track is fast and you can assume perfect trips for all.
