P - Dunkirk

S - Mine That Bird

Also run:

Brave Victory, Flying Private, Luv Guv, Summer Bird, Miner's Escape,

Chocolate Candy, Mr. Hot Stuff

Charitable Man and Brave Victory will take the lead after the break with Flying Private & Dunkirk running 3rd and 4th until the half-mile pole where Brave Victory will clearly take the lead but Charitable Man will just be a length behind. At the turn, Dunkirk and Charitable Man will be head-to-head for the lead while Mine That Bird wil start his run about 15 lengths far behind but at the stretch Charitable Man will draw clear from Dunkirk and will win by 5 lengths. Dunkirk should have enough lead to hold off Mine That Bird for the Place. Brave Victory should be able to hold on to complete the Superfecta.

On paper, I can't imagine Mr. Hot Stuff winning this race but with Edgar Prado on board, though there's no trple crown bid to spoil, I wouldn't be surprised if EP will pull it off once more - Sarava (70-1)& Birdstone (36-1). It is Belmont Stakes after all.

I'm going to carefully watch 'Flying Private', but I sincerely hope that MTB wins by mucho lengths.... this maybe the opportunity for some record-breaking running.

I also send out well-wishes to General Quarters and hope he is up and running/racing soon.

from Italy is quite difficult to see "who is hot" for belmont but I am a reader of the only italian newspaper about races and this my idea (I would not put a lot of money on it)of a possible ranking

AnnGie - First of all, offspring are by a sire and out of a mare - sorry that one always bugs me. Secondly, in the Thoroughbred world horses are only considered to be half-siblings when they have the same dam. horses with the same sire are just that, horses with the same sire, not related otherwise. It's done this way because stallions can have more than 100 offspring per year and the relationship becomes almost meaningless at that point.

Personally, I think Summer Bird resembles his broodmare sire, Summer Squall, but that's neither here nor there.

MTB and SB are both out of the sire Birdstone. I think that makes them half brothers.

Mine That Bird will be in the top three I'm sure, but I'm more intrested in his half brother Summer Bird. Both are bred for the distance and come from behind. In the derby Summer Bird came seven wide and was coming on strong. In the Ark. Derby he was coming closer and closer to Qold Fashioned and Papa Clem. He may just amaze us all like MTB did.

This is a 3 horse race between Charitable Man, Dunkirk and Mine That Bird. I give the edge to C M, Fresh, win over the surface, Lone spped, Jock won a Belmont, Dunkirk, 2 1 1/8 preps Bred for this distance, top beyer, Pletcher in the money last 3 Belmonts. Mine that Bird, beat the best males in Derby and Preakness. Has another top race in him.
