Come on nobody thinks Azeri is good enought to be in the top three??? Stop thinking with your hearts and use your head. However if all of them run the race of their life with no traffic problems as suggested my guess is you could throw a quilt over the whole group at the finish line.

Landaluce was and always will be the best. She did things as a two year old that no other has done, but never got the chance to prove the rest before she died. If you want to talk the best filly or mare to ever live, I say it has to go to LANDALUCE from 1982

In my opinion at 1 1/4 and equal weights, Ruffian is the best, followed by in order: Personal Ensign, Landaluce, Zenyatta, Bayakoa, Lady's Secret, Inside Information, Rags to Riches, Genuine Risk, Heavenly Cause, Winning Colors and Rachel Alexandra. 'Nuff said!

When I said that Zenyatta was the first filly or mare to defeat G-1 males at 1-1/4M in 41 years, I meant OLDER MALES. I know that the races weren't graded back then, but the race was the equivalent of a G-1 race and is, in fact, a G-1 race today (Hollywood Gold Cup). Of course Winning Colors and Genuine Risk won the G-1 Derby against 3 y-o males. LOL

It seems to me that Personal Ensign won the 1987 G-1 Beldame at 1-1/4M, 8 days after winning the G-2 Rare Perfume.....The following year she won the Distaff at 1-1/8M against and even more dominant winner of the Kentucky Derby three weeks after winning the G-1 Beldame at 1-1/4M for the second year in a row.....Zenyatta's races were planned a little further apart, but she still beat a G-1 male dominated field in the BCC at 1-1/4M and in a very good time (the first filly or mare to win a G-1 race against males at 1-1/4M in 41 years).....That dominant Kentucky Derby winning male that you were bragging about Rachel beating was at least a pole behind her when the race was over, not a diminishing length......Don't compare Rachel's Preakness schedule of two weeks as if it was a hurclean effort. The field in the Oaks was laughable at best and the race itself was little more than a paid workout. LOL

SMTDL ,Zenyatta can win at any lengths. She is the next best thing to Ruffian, she is also built like her. I believe Zenyatta would have won the triple crown had she raced at 3 and was in all of the crown races.

If you trip handicap the race, it definitely sets up for closers, although it's only 1 1/8. That said, I still gave it to Ruffian. I say she runs Winning Colors and Rachel into the groud, and she's followed home by Zenyatta, Rags to Riches and Personal Ensign. I don't know how Rags could be ranked last here. Tactical speed with proven staying power!

Its premature to say Rachel Alexandra can't get a mile and a quarter.She won the Preakness from the far outside while setting a good pace all the way holding off a dominant Derby winning male horse who got the inside almost all the way.She probably gave away at least 2 or 3 lengths to MTB .Also she did that on a mere 2 week's rest!!When did Zenyatta or Personal Ensign do anything like that??Ruffian,Rachel,Lady's Secret,Go for Wand,Rags to Riches would be my choices!

Too much early speed in this hypothetical race, so it sets up for a deep closer. I'd put a win bet on both Personal Ensign and Zenyatta. (And I've seen all of these great fillies race.)

Check out the Apple Blossom in 2008 when Zenyatta absolutly crushed Ginger Punch the reigning Distaff champ and champion filly. It was her only race on dirt, but it was a surface she actually relished (possibly her best race)......Also, check out the record of her younger sister, Balance, a filly born in 2003 who won 6 out of 16 starts and was in the money 13 times and won over $1M and was one of the top fillies of her year.....It's not hard to see that Zenyatta loves dirt......the most impressive thing about her is that she is super on both surfaces.

I am tired of hearing that "Her trainer says that Zenyatta is even better on dirt". Has this been proven? No! Since when does the racing public take the word of a trainer who has nothing to back it up?

Why are these fields always 10 horses? Is there no room in this make believe race for a gate full of fillies? If they all race in thier "best" year, are their weight allowances?

I'll take Zenyatta to win and RA to finish dead last. When Zenyatta, Ruffian, and a host of others blew by RA in the stretch she would spit the bit and wilt like a dried out flower in the sun.

Rags to Riches has done enough!! Call me when Rachel finally runs a mile and a quarter! Rachel and/or Calvin have not proven they can keep her out of trouble in top competition.

Azeri was the best hore in N. American in her HOY year. Her Classic win dwarfed the boys -- much like Princess Rooney (who's not here).

We've probably seen the best of every horse in the field except one -- Zenyatta wins.

Long live Queen Zarkava!!!!!!

Ruffian, Zenyatta and Personal Ensign, three fillies with hearts as big as mountains. Two who never lost and three that never wanted to. I wish I could say who would win, but even more I wish I could witness it. Great fillies all! Can't forget Shuvee either! She beat the boys in the Jockey Club at two miles (twice I think?)

Ruffian will always be the Queen. Zenyatta is hand's down the best filly period. but Ruffian will always hold that crown~~~~

RUFFIAN beat a very nice filly called HOT N' NASTY, as I recall, but I don't think that RUFFIAN's legacy is about the horses she defeated, it's how she won her races. RUFFIAN set track and stakes records in many of her starts. She was outrageously fast. She was never headed. She was never challenged. I am impressed by her to this day. She was great.

David Whitely, Frank Whitely's son, scratched SARSAR (a DAMASCUS filly that had won the Santa Susana Stakes - now called the Santa Anita Oaks - and the Withers Stakes, against colts) from the Acorn Stakes, and I'm going to presume it was because he thought his very good filly would be defeated.

LDP, you are right. How can Rachel run at 116 BSF and end up LAST among ten runners??? LOL. Thats so funny, it cracks me up.

Its like running a bicycle against a Ferrari, and the Ferrari ends up last. LOL. LOL. Some Bike, huh?? Must be Batman's bike. LOL.

Obviously, anyone who places Rachel last is BIASED against her. All the ladies in this list are very good, but Rachel is UP THERE AMONG THE BEST--and that is not an opinion. IT IS A FACT. Just ask the Thoroughbred HALL OF FAME.

Comparisons have been made between Rachel and MALES like Secretariat and Halo America.. she is compared not to females, but to MALES!! And she is just 3!! Zen had to wait until she is 5 before she defeated older males in the BC.. That only shows HOW DIFFICULT it is to win against OLDER MALES.. And Rachel won against older males at 3!!! SUPER FILLY, INDEED!!!

Zen can't run faster than 112 BSF on Pro-Ride, her best surface. And even if she closes, Rachel has proven she can outrun CLOSERS too. Just ask Macho Again.

By the way, Macho Again is the favorite in the upcoming Clark handicap on the 28th.

Ruffian (God rest her soul) is a GREAT filly, and she had one SHORT but historic career. But let's be HONEST--she's a Pistol. She is short-tempered and her family is famous for breaking down. Ruffian, if pressed like in the Match-race with Foolish pleasure, will PROBABLY not race well.

I would scratch Ruffian from this imaginary race, but I will give her credit, and put her 2nd or 3rd. Zen can be fifth.

Rachel is the SUPER-FILLY!! She will be HOY 2009!!! GO, BABY, GO!!
