Brazeau Farms caters to each individual horse

by Tracy Gantz

Shivareen Sky, an 18-year-old stakes-winning broodmare, can't get the food she needs when pastured with other mares because she lets them bully her. Yet when housed by herself, she bcomes upset and lonely. Either way, she doesn't eat.

Nadine Anderson, co-owner and manager of Brazeau Thoroughbred Farms near Hemet, Calif., has the admittedly labor-intensive solution. Several times a day, Anderson or one of her employees goes into the pasture of mares and feeds Shivareen Sky by hand.
