Eddie Plesa Jr. rewarded with Itsmyluckyday

Like many other trainers, Eddie Plesa Jr. believes in karma, good luck charms, and whatever other-worldly powers that might give his horses an edge. After all, in a profession where you lose 80% of the time, any edge is appreciated.

Therefore, when Plesa and his wife, Laurie, discovered that Eric Guillot, trainer of Moreno, their main rival for last year's Woodward Stakes (gr.I), had voodoo dolls hanging from a tree outside his barn, they felt compelled to neutralize that hex by hanging Eddie's St. Francis medal (to protect animals from harm) on the bridle of their Woodward contender Itsmyluckyday. It must have worked, as Itsmyluckyday ran down Moreno in the final furlong to win one of America's most prestigious races for older horses.
