WHENEVER MATTHEW SCHERA and his family visit Aqueduct Racetrack, they always make use of the clubhouse entrance.

There, as they walk in, they are flanked by parallel rows of jockey statues, each painted with the colors of some of the New York Racing Association’s most renowned owners.
