BEN HUFFMAN TO BE FRIDAY'S GUEST ON BLOODHORSE.COM "TALKIN' HORSES"

Lexington, KY - Join Ben Huffman, racing secretary for Keeneland and Churchill Downs for a special Friday edition of bloodhorse.com "Talkin' Horses" sponsored by AirShod.com. Huffman will be the guest live online at www.bloodhorse.com/talkinhorses on Friday, January 4 at noon ET. A Louisville native, Huffman has served as racing secretary at Keeneland Race Course since 2002 and at Churchill Downs since 2006. As racing secretary, Huffman is responsible for shaping the racing programs at both tracks. Among his many duties, he writes the condition book (used by the owners and trainers to identify the upcoming races that best suit each of their runners), allocates stalls to training outfits, recruits horses for stakes races, and oversees a staff of racing officials (stewards, placing judges, clerk of scales, etc.), who make sure that racing is conducted within the rules of the state.

Huffman previously was an assistant for his father, trainer William "Blackie" Huffman, for three years. His uncle Neil is also a Thoroughbred trainer. In 1991, Ben Huffman began working in racing offices at Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, Keeneland and Turfway. As with most racing officials, he wore many hats during that time, serving as stakes coordinator, assistant racing secretary, placing judge, paddock judge, and patrol judge.

Huffman also was racing secretary and director of racing from 2003-2005 at Fair Grounds Race Course, in New Orleans, La., and worked for three years as racing secretary at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.
