BLOOD-HORSE PUBLICATIONS' BOARD OF TRUSTEES RATIFIES THE APPOINTMENT OF KIM BROWN AS PUBLISHER/EDITOR OF THE HORSE: YOUR GUIDE TO EQUINE HEALTH CARE
Lexington, Ky. -The Blood-Horse Publications' board of trustees ratified the appointment of Kim Brown as publisher/editor of The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care at their annual spring meeting on Wednesday. Brown, 49, joined the company's flagship publication, The Blood-Horse, as a staff writer in 1980 and soon earned recognition as an expert on equine health topics. The company purchased a small newsletter titled Modern Horse Breeding in 1993, giving Brown the reins as editor. Under her guidance, the newsletter was converted to an award-winning, multimedia publishing group that examines all aspects of equine health care. In her expanded position, Brown will continue in her role as Editor-in-Chief, and she will assume complete financial responsibility for the performance and growth of The Horse: Your Guide To Equine Health Care business unit.
"Kim is the paragon of a modern-day editor," noted Mr. Stacy V. Bearse, president and CEO. "She is an innovative thinker who is intimately in touch with her audience and market. Kim has grown a small newsletter into a many-faceted publishing franchise that touches more than 100,000 horsemen every week. She understands the value of multi-media publishing, and has surrounded herself with talented individuals who are unafraid to tackle the next great challenge."
Brown is a 1979 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications. She was raised around horses and lives on small farm in Woodford County, Ky., with her husband Ben, a professional musician, and younger daughter Beth, along with an assortment of goats, chickens, horses, a donkey, dogs, and cats. Her older daughter Barbara is an Animal Science graduate of Western Kentucky University and currently lives in Wyoming with her two Quarter Horses and mule. A believer in giving back to the industry, Brown is a member of the Executive Committee of American Horse Publications (AHP) and will serve as president of that group in 2010; a founder/board member/treasurer of the 501(c)(3) Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police; lectures at local colleges and universities to agriculture, equine, and journalism classes; has worked with the Racetrack Chaplaincy since she was in high school and now supports the Blue Grass Farms Chaplaincy; and is an active member of Pinckard Baptist Church in Versailles, Ky. She and her husband partner as songwriters, and they play in the band Whisper Garden that often features their original tunes.
