The free Webinar will be presented by Frank Andrews, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM, the director of Louisiana State University's Equine Health Studies Program. Andrews will be assisted in answering questions by Frank Hurtig, DVM, MBA, director of Veterinary Services at Merial.
Did you know that research has shown horses start developing gastric ulcers within three days of a stressful event? Something as simple as hauling your horse to a show or trail ride can incite equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS). Some researchers suggest that up to 50% of "normal" backyard horses have ulcers, including broodmares and young horses.
For more than a decade equine gastric ulcer syndrome and colonic ulcers have been linked to performance and health problems in horses. Today, research continues to improve our understanding of ulcers, and the results are beginning to help veterinarians develop new strategies for prevention and treatment.
