Dick Barton expands his racing/breeding outfit with skilled people, business savvy, and luck

Richard “Dick” Barton is cruising well below the radar through California’s racing scene, but in a couple of years, with some luck, he may become one of the state’s leading owner/breeders.
A self-described “normal guy,” Barton has been a fan of horse racing since attending his first race at Del Mar, cashing a $60 daily double. Barton was a Riverside, Calif., high school student at the time and a talented basketball player, who would later be drafted by the NBA Atlanta Hawks. The magnetic athleticism of Thoroughbreds kept him coming back to the races.
