Sam Houston Race Park and Texas racing are on the rise

THE NAMESAKE of Sam Houston Race Park is known for his role as one of the leaders of the Texas Revolution, which resulted in the formation of the Republic of Texas after winning independence from Mexico, and now the track on the outskirts of the Lone Star State's largest city is hoping for a revolution—or more accurately, a revival—of its own.
