Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady

Take Charge Lady, the dam of champion Will Take Charge and grade I winner Take Charge Indy, is the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association’s 2013 Broodmare of the Year.

The mare also was voted the winner in the MarketWatch Broodmare of the Year poll.

During her racing campaign, Take Charge Lady was known as the Queen of Keeneland, where she won the Alcibiades (gr. II), Ashland (gr. I), as well as the Spinster Stakes (gr. I) on two occasions. The Dehere filly won 11 races and earned more than $2.4 million in her racing career.

One of her handlers noted that the 15-year-old mare “looks terrific” and “she doesn’t carry much weight” when in foal. Dappled out and looking great, Take Charge Lady has a War Front yearling filly that was born on April 7, 2013. She did not produce a foal in 2014 and has been bred to War Front this season.

What a gorgeous girl!

just like she was on the track, no surprise that she is a boss mare in the field, in warning the other mare to move away.

That is such a lovely feminine mare. And at 15 she looks good enough to

go back into training tomorrow. A once in a lifetime horse. I hope she gets to have a few more babies(but not too many<g>) and retire in comfort.

She is just beautiful. I always liked to see her race, and love that we can see her great sons racing.

Stellar Jayne

Beautiful pictures of Take Charge Lady, she is very classy.

On another topic - I have been trying to find out the status of Gozzip Girl's first foal by Deep Impact.  He is a beautiful black colt with a lot of presence.  There was a reference in an article that GG's first foal out of DI, described as a black colt, had died.  Can anyone in this blog or at the Blood-Horse verify if it is true? I have visited the Shadai site many times looking for current info on him, but can't find any information.  I'd appreciate any information regarding him.
