The People Speak: Zenyatta and A.P. Indy Perfect Match

The suggestions for the perfect stallion for Zenyatta were large in number and wide in their variety. Studs at her new home, Lane's End Farm, were mentioned prominently, but other suggestions included her successful Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) rival Blame; various foreign stallions, including Sea the Stars; deceased sires, including Northern Dancer; the great but pensioned Storm Cat; and even geldings such as Kentucky Derby Presented By Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Mine That Bird. Some imaginations ran very wild.

It was tough to count the votes. Some responders discussed the issue a lot and it wasn't clear what their actual recommendations were. But, by far, A.P. Indy, received the most positive mentions, more than 25.

None of the other studs received more than 10 positive mentions. The ones with five or more were Medaglia d'Oro, Dynaformer, Pulpit, Bernardini, Curlin, Mineshaft, and Afleet Alex. Just behind them in positive mentions, with at least four, were Einstein, Giant's Causeway, Sea the Stars, Tiznow, and Candy Ride.

Did I miss some in calculating the totals? Probably. It wasn't an exact science.

But one thing was clear. People do care about Zenyatta's future as a broodmare.
