Kentucky Derby Horses and Their Auction Prices

Trinniberg is one of the the biggest auction bargains among the horses entered in the May 5 Kentucky Derby Presented By Yum! Brands (gr. I).

In 2010, M&H Training and Sales bought the dark bay or brown colt for only $1,500 from Beau Lane Bloodstock, agent, at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale. The following year, Shivananda Parbhoo purchased the son of Teuflesberg for $21,000 from M & H, agent, at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. spring sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Trinniberg has earned $341,300 while winning three of his seven career races. He is coming into the Derby off of back-to-back wins in the Bay Shore (gr. III) and Swale (gr. III) stakes.

The quality this year, despite the lack of even one high sales figure, is well above average, possibly better than the 2004 or 2001 crops, we'll see. After reviewing the PP's, which are not free this year (unlike years before), it's obvious that the talent level is strong
