Broodmare sire leadership based on lifetime progeny statistics doesn't tend to change much from year to year. Two new stallions breaking into top positions, therefore, are significant news. In my review of 2010 broodmare sire AEI rankings (cover story), I identify changes in the top 20 positions and predict a few stallions to challenge for leadership next year. Tom Hall takes a closer look at one of the current leaders (page 6) in a special profile on Smart Strike as a sire of producing mares.

Danzig is nowhere near the top of the stallion rankings by progeny earnings, but he has dominated the MarketWatch Index in recent years. Eric Mitchell analyzes Danzig and other MWI leaders (cover story), with accompanying charts identifying leading stallions by 3-, 5-, and 7-year studies.

Also in the April issue, MarketWatch's 2011 "Investment" series returns with a review of the racehorse partnership opportunities available to investors at various levels. You'll also find the winner of this year's MarketWatch Broodmare of the Year honors. (Stories on page 12.) Please also look for a correction on the back cover: A series of "Quality of Mares Bred" charts printed with inverted headings in the November 2010 issue appears with corrected labels.

As always, more exclusive content is available--to subscribers only!--at the MarketWatch web site, including special reports, an archive of past issues, and prospective pinhook reports for upcoming sales. (The MarketWatch home page has subscription details if you haven't already signed up.)
